Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla said that Artificial Intelligence (AI) should not be allowed to become a tool for controlling human beings. He said that AI must always serve humanity and stressed on the need for AI to be rooted in spiritual wisdom and ethical responsibility.
Birla was addressing the inaugural ceremony at an international conference ‘Faith and Future: Integrating AI with Spirituality’ at Dev Sanskriti University in Haridwar on Tuesday.
Underlining that the true purpose of technology is to enrich and elevate human experience and not to replace it, the speaker highlighted that while AI does pose several challenges, it also offers the seeds of innovative solutions.
Birla said that morality and truth are India’s core strengths and these values should be shared globally. He proposed that AI could serve as a powerful medium to disseminate India’s ancient wisdom and knowledge systems to the world. He said that being a powerful force, AI must be balanced with wisdom and patience to yield truly positive outcomes. Birla added that compassion, empathy, and human values will guide the convergence of AI and spirituality in the right direction and lay the foundation for a just and equitable future. Birla also highlighted the transformative potential of AI in fields such as healthcare, education, agriculture, and public welfare, noting that it could significantly improve the quality of life for millions. Referencing India’s ancient ideals of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (world is one family) and Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah (May all be happy), Birla reiterated that AI development must be inclusive and equitable, ensuring that the benefits reach all of humanity.
Speaking on the occasion, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the Santan culture is not only based on faith and belief but also on scientific viewpoint, contemplation and research. He said AI is not only making our daily life easier but has also become the main reason for the progress of innovation in industry, medicine, education, agriculture and many other fields. The CM observed that by using the power of AI in the right direction and for the right purpose, it can play an important role in improving the lives of people by bringing about improvement in many areas.
The pro vice chancellor of the Dev Sanskriti university Chinmay Pandya, chief executive officer of AI Mission of government of India Abhishek Singh, Haridwar MLA Madan Kaushik and others attended the ceremony.
